In many of our retreats we teach this moving meditation that is sometimes called “The Dance of the Seven Directions” – ( or the Dance of the Four Directions.) This simple sequence of flowing movements is seamlessly repeated as a cycle moving through each of the four cardinal directions and repeated for 3-6-9-12 or more cycles.We are posting this short video of the sequence of movements in one of the directions as a learning tool and reminder for students of ours who have learned this meditation from us in the past. This video shows the movements in just one of the four cardinal directions (beginning in the East), and at the conclusion of this video the sequence of movements would then repeat facing the South…and then the West…and then the North… and then beginning a new cycle facing the East again.
As your familiarity with the physical movements grows, you can begin to expand your contemplation to include the inner sense that each movement actually reaches to infinity ))) and that with each breath your are Receiving))) and Radiating ))) blessings and positive energy with and for all beings in infinite expanse of all the directions – East, West, South, North, upward to the vastness of the Heavens, downward into the Earth, and inward to the infinite dimensions of your interior being.
With practice you can also contemplate the various cycles of life, archetypes, and profound meanings of each of the directions. For example:
Dawn, Noon-time, Sunset, Midnight, a new Dawn….
Birth, growth and maturity, waning, death, rebirth…
Awakening our Visionary archetype, our Healer, Teacher/Sage, Warrior….
Awakening Mirror-Like Wisdom-Intuition, Wisdom-Intuition of the Essential Equality of All Beings, Distinguishing Wisdom-Intuition, All-Accomplishing Wisdom-Intuition….
ad infinitum.
This is a very deep practice of contemplation for flowing with grace through the myriad of changes and transformations of our lives)))
